Cosmetic Dentistry Orthodontic

Teeth alignment is a common form of dental treatment done to persons who want to improve the appearance of their teeth. The treatment can be a fixed appliance – e.g. metallic braces or a removable appliance that one wears for a specific number of hours.

The treatment is ideally done in adolescents but it can also be done in adults even up to 50 years of age.

Orthodontic issues that qualify for braces treatment

As mentioned earlier alignment helps to improve the appearance and functionality of teeth. Below are misalignment cases that qualify for alignment treatment:

Types of dental braces available in Nairobi

Dental braces can be made of metal, ceramic, or special plastic. We have different types of braces which include:

  • Metal braces

Nowadays, metal braces are more visually appealing than in past years, with a range of color options for both the brackets and the elastics.

  • Ceramic braces

Ceramic braces (also called clear braces) use clear or tooth-colored brackets made of ceramic, just as the name suggests.

  • Self-ligating braces

Instead of using rubber bands to connect the brackets to the archwire, self-ligating braces use a specialized bracket that clips directly to the wire.

  • Lingual braces

Lingual braces are attached to the inside surface of your teeth, majorly for aesthetic reasons.

  • Clear aligners like Invisalign

With Invisalign, the aligners are transparent and invisible (no metal bands or wires), therefore nobody is going to realize that you are undergoing treatment.

The choice of which option a patient can consider for teeth alignment is informed by several factors such as:

  • The dentists’ advice
  • The complexity of the case
  • Costs related to the treatment
  • The patient’s preference
